Mickey at Carson Beach South Boston MA

Michael J “Mickey” Sullivan
1959 – 2020

Born in Brockton, Massachusetts, Mickey lived most of his life in Boston proper.

As a young gay man moving from Brockton to Boston, he found employment initially in service industry jobs while enjoying his newly acquired lifestyle freedom among the ever growing Boston gay community.

From the earliest days, music was his passion which manifested his enrollment at the Northeast Broadcasting School.  As time progressed, he became well known and loved for his DJ skills and personality as he developed his craft at Boston’s most treasured gay clubs.  Mickey also DJ’d in Portland and Ogunquit Maine and had many friends there.

Mickey worked for Boston University as a Senior Security Assistant Officer of Housing for 17 years and was a Vice-President for his union at Local 2324.

Most recently, he lived in South Boston until a fire necessitated his moving.  Six months after the fire, Mickey’s husband, Robert Lauretti, passed away due to poor health.

Mickey had been living with his cousin, Anne, of Orlando, Florida, for a year and a half when he passed.  He had adjusted well to life in Florida and enjoyed the company of his cousin immensely.

He was suffering from declining health.  Nonetheless, he would not allow such to keep him from his countless dedicated followers on the numerous FaceBook groups he had created and supported.  The hospital reported that Mickey succummbed to cardiac arrest.

Mickey leaves a sister, Deb Allaire of Brockton, MA, a brother Dan Sullivan of Bridgewater, MA, several nieces and a nephew.

As with many gay men of his generation, Mickey’s family consisted of many lifelong friends from his early years in Boston complemented by new associations from his ever-involved participation in gay community events.  His life was rich with friends who came to know him for his talent, compassion and caring.  Among Mickey’s most cherished lifelong friends were Al, Timmy, Roger, Butchie, Eddie, Kevin and Patrick.

Simply put:  Mickey experienced a life well lived.  Thank you for the music!
